Hello fellow halfbikers! I have recently started learning how to ride this machine and I am making some good progress but I am finding that pedals feel too small and narrow. My feet are average size but I am finding that when I just start going and bring my second foot on a pedal it frequently catches the crank arm with the sole of my shoe. Also, my legs get tired really really fast and I believe it is partially because the feet don't have full support. So, I was wondering if anyone tried Elliptigo pedals (www.elliptigo.de/en/shop/spare-parts/pedal-set)? Are these too crazy?

Hi Mikhail, With enough practice you can certainly learn to minimize or the scraping from the back two wheels. - it's all about position. The pedals from Elliptigo seem really long and they might not fit the Halfbike's set-up. However some of our riders have installed different brands like Catalys & Moto reflex and they're pretty happy with the results. You can see some of those mods here > halfbikes.com/pimp-my-halfbike

Hello I managed to find the specs for these EliptiGO pedals on T'internet. As I am having no luck finding Catalysts Evo 2's over here in the UK. I brought what I could find of the reliably biggest working platform pedals, (that were decent). And hoped it would support the expanse of the arch of my foot during the motion of pedaling. I have started to get that tell, tell planta faciitis twinge. I stumbled across this post while trying to find my forever pedals that aren't going to blow the budget on import duty and taxes. This pedals are 29cms long and the pivot point of these pedals is pretty much in the middle. I too was as scepticle about its viability until I did some measuring this morning post ride. My shoe soles are 29-30cms long and how I ride my Halfbike, (pedals pretty much slap bang in the middle of my foots arch). Which means I am right in that window to rub or bang on things if these pedals are going to course issues. Granted when I was learning to carve corners I scrubbed my heals on the wheels a bit, but that was all. Not really done it since. I think they could work. They just need to have good enough spindle distance from the crank to the edge of the pedal and be 9/16" thread and it looks possible.

I have no idea how helpful this is going to be for the Halfbikers but Because my planta is getting tweeked more due to longer riding times. I have been doing alot more research into the elliptiGO pedal for that Fuller foot support. The pedal is 11.8" which is 290.9mm or close to that. My template is 300mm to allow for any mismatching. I thinking the pedals width is at least 110mm-120mm based on the scale up, my own foot width and pictures I have see when a human foot is on one. It is helpfully that I was able to get ElliptiGO to confirm a 9/16 spindle, so it can attach on the Halfbike crank with little problem. I will attach two pics of the scaled up cardboard template I used for testing the tolerance on the back wheel which where I see most of the issues happening. Look forward to hearing opinions on the subject. Peace.

Other tolerance pic. I should have mentioned use the white paper as well as the pedal as your size guide.

Hi Chris, This pedal seems way too long for the Halfbike. Don't think you'll be able to make turs and U-turns with it, since it will easily touch the back two wheels. Do be careful if you ever try them on :)

Thank you for wading in. It was one of the concerns I did have once I realised that pedaling clearence could be achived. The only reason I thought I be able to might make work for my style of Halfbiking is because I naturally find myself turning/carving with my foot at its highest point of the arc whether I am doing small turns or U's. Thank you for your concern. I do appreciate outside input. Peace.

Acquired some MKS Lambda's at a nice price worthy of trying them out to see if they supported the length of my foots arch. First ride today paid off, felt instant support from the front of the heal to the start of the ball. I can say they are worth a shot and you can also mod these to accept MTB style foot studding.

Those long Eliptigo pedals look pretty interesting. I'd also recommend looking at Pedaling Innovations. pedalinginnovations.com They were the longest standard bike pedal I could find when I went looking for full arch support options. They come with MTB threaded 'pins' which I swapped out since I keep scrapping myself on them very easily. I installed non-threaded pins and have been really please to not be getting scrapped easily while still retaining excellent traction. They are quite pricey. I think they upped the price ~$25 since I got my set. They definitely relieved some ankle/arch pain I would get after longer distances over rough terrain.

Yeah man. Pedal innovations were what I wanted first time our when looking for pedal. But buying them from the USA to Europe was distgustingly expensive. It was more affordable when they had a licenced manufacturing in the UK. They told me they don't have distributor over must side of the Atlantic at the mo. I did the MTB pin mod on the Lambda's and I am quite happy.

I love my Pedal Innovations on the half bike. So much easier to ride (for me). Worth the $$ of you can do it. I put pins on one side of each pedal, so I can ride with or without pins. I usually prefer riding without pins, so I can shift my feet around a bit. Pins are better in rain, however.

What is the best position to place the feet on the pedals?
(halfbiker) 2 years ago
My personal favourite position/feet are most comfortable to excerpt power and stability is having my pedals covering the span of my arch as equally front to back as I can get. I have had to look into specific positioning because of the planta strain I have suffered and do not like coming back. Plus found quite alot of pedals aren't big enough and it was a tiny part of my foot putting quite a bit of force through my pedals.
