100 kilometer ride turns into 100 miles
Now that I'm officially 65 years old I set out to do my 3rd 100k ride on the Halfbike. I began at 2:00 AM in order to get a good distance in before the south Florida sun started to bake. The more I rode, the more I thought about stretching it out farther than 62, or even my age of 65. As it turned out, when I reached 65 miles I was still a good distance from home so I decided to go for 100 Miles.
It was already very hot and I knew it would get hotter as the morning went on. I kept refilling my water bottle and managed to stay well hydrated. At 73 miles I was ready for some air conditioning so I stropped at a convenience store for a couple bananas, an iced decaf, iced water, and about 30 minutes of a/c.
About 80 miles in the skies began to get refreshingly overcast, then a light rain lasted for a short time which I enjoyed very much : ) I was riding the Halfbike 2, and fatigue was starting to set in so almost every time I had to stop for traffic signals I downshifted all the way to 1st, in order to make it easier to pedal away again!! At 91 miles I had one last rest stop under the shade trees.. it felt so good to lay in the grass with a strong wind blowing.
When I got closer to home I had to circle some blocks to make 100 miles, but mission accomplished!
Awesome, that's impressive Tom :)
Thanks Bo! By the way, I set up a Strava account, what category do you use for the Halfbike?
Hey Tom,
Since, there's no specific Halfbike option, some people use cycling and some people use elliptical. Not sure which one comes closest to the Halfbike :)
Wow! Nicely done, Tom! Very impressive.
